First View at HostGator Account

Now I have subscribed with HostGator baby plan. The sign up process was straight forward. However, I wanted to pay with PayPal and I found the payment process a bit complex. When I created an account using PayPal option, my account got created without making a payment. I was hoping to get redirection to PayPal before account was created. I had to make payment after logging in to the account.

Anyway, after payment, I have got an account setup with hostgator. So I got a chance to play with my account. This article is basic summary information about hostgator account.

Set Up Email From HostGator

Since the payment is done, I got the setup email from hostgator containing information about my username, password, server name & name servers.

Until the DNS propagates, I had to use hostgator domain names to access my account. Hostgator uses cPanel. My cPanel setup is done on my purchased new domain.

Hostgator name servers are in nsXX.hostgator.com format where XX is a digital number. These are the exact same name servers which I need to use for my future domains also. If you, by mistake, change XX number then DNS setup won’t work for your domain.

HostGator & cPanel

When you login to your account, you get the complete access of utilities like billing details, mail setup, file management, logs, security, domains, databases, fantastico and much more. You can do virtually anything to your account with the tools given in the cPanel.

Hostgator cPanel

You also have statics panel in the left side. You can check brief information about how many domains you have hosted, how much data transfer is used, how many accounts you have created. You can also check server status information like the load on the server and you’ll get the name servers detail. You can also check your visitor logs.

There are few key features missing in the cPanel account. Those are advanced DNS management as well as SSH access. I will add more detailed information about each of the tool in the future articles.

So far things look like very easy to mange. It will be a fun to play with hostgator cpanel account.
