HostGator File Manager
The file manager, which usually comes along with the cPanel, is used to manage files and folders directly on the server. You can create, edit, rename & move files using file manager. In this article, I will show you how to use file manager to do routine tasks.
You can access the file manager from the HostGator cPanel. Under the “Files” section, there is an icon for File Manager. Just click on it and you will see the file manager.
Generally people use FTP program to do all the editing of files & folders. FTP programs are easy to use and give more flexibility. But sometimes, you might need to change the files from a system where FTP program is not installed. In such cases, file manager is very helpful to do all tasks.
Navigation in HostGator File Manager
It’s very easy to navigate through the file manager. When you open the File Manager first time, you will have option to select the folder. You also have option to select the document root of the all hosted domains.
If you want to enter in to the folder, just double click on it and you will be entered in to the folder. If you want to go back to the parent level directory, just click on the “Up One Level” button.
Create Files & Folders Using HostGator File Manager
Creation of files and folders is very easy. There are two buttons in the file manager. “New File” and “New Folder” are used to create file and folder respectively.
When you click on New File button, you need to give file name and destination path for the creation of the file.
Same as in file, here also you need to give Folder name and destination path for the folder.
Edit File Using HostGator File Manager
In file manager, you have two options for editing the file. You can edit the file in code editor or you can also edit the file in HTML editor. To edit the file, just select the file and click on any of the button Code Editor or HTML Editor.
If you are very much familiar with HTML language, you can edit the file in code editor. Code editor displays the code in colored format. So it’s easy to read and change.
In HTML editor, you will see the page in exactly the same way as you will see in the browser. If you don’t want to write/change in HTML language, you better prefer HTML editor.
Delete File or Folder Using HostGator File Manager
Deleting of files & folders is very easy in HostGator using File Manager. Just select the files and folders which you want to delete. Then click on Delete button and you are done. You will be presented a dialog box for the confirmation.
If you confirm it, selected files and folders will be deleted.
