How to Manage FTP Accounts in HostGator?
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is generally used to transfer files from your computer to your web hosting account. When you subscribe to any web hosting account, you are given the FTP account as well to transfer files.
Just like every other hosts, when you create an account with Hostgator, you also get the FTP account. Your hostgator account username and password will work as your FTP username and FTP password. Default user has access to all directories.
HostGator Default FTP accounts
To view the hostgator default ftp accounts, log in to the control panel. Click on FTP Accounts option under Files section.
By default, total 4 ftp accounts are created in your hostgator account. Two anonymous accounts, one main FTP account and one log access account.
Although two anonymous accounts are created, both are disabled by default. You can enable anonymous accounts by going in to Anonymous FTP section.
You can use log access account to download your website’s raw access log files.
Add FTP Account
If you want to give web site access to some other person, you can create a sub ftp account for that user. Creating a new FTP account is very simple. First login to your cPanel then click on FTP Accounts.
Now you just need to give username and password details for the new FTP account. You can also specify particular directory. So if you have more than one web sites hosted in different directories, you can give access to specific web site providing that website’s directory name.
There is also a quota facility available. So the user can’t misuse the allocated space.
You can also easily delete or edit the created account from FTP Accounts section. To delete the account, just click on the delete button beside the usernames.
You can’t delete anonymous accounts created by default.
Now you know how to create and manage FTP accounts. So now you can use any FTP client to transfer files.
