I am still new with the hostgator and it would be early to give opinion on HostGator but I am going to write my experience any way. So here we go!
I am an online marketer and my budget is very limited for web hosting. My sites are not getting much web traffic also. So I didn’t want to go for VPS or dedicated web hosting. I am going to use web hosting account for myself, so reseller hosting is also not an option for me.
As of January 1, 2010, HostGator offers three different types of shared hosting plan
- Hatchling Plan
- Baby Plan
- Business Plan
Hatchling plan is the cheapest one with $4.95/Month but offers only single domain for hosting. Since I am an online marketer, I need a single account which hosts more than one domain. So Hatchling plan is not useful for me.
Business plan comes with unlimited domain hosting as well as free SSL & IP support along with toll free number support. I don’t need SSL & IP. Also I am outside USA, so free toll free number support doesn’t make any difference. I don’t find any solid reason to go for Business plan.
Baby plan also comes with unlimited domain hosting and costs only $7.95/Month. So Baby plan is the best choice for me.
My HostGator Experience So Far
Overall I am happy with the HostGator services. I haven’t faced any downtime yet. The response time is also good.
The main thing I particularly like is the support. HostGator has really nice support staff and since they offer both call support as well as live chat support; your problem can be solved easily.
I wanted to use Google Apps for this domain especially for email. I like Gmail interface very much. So I needed to change DNS entries. I started live chat and within 2 minutes, a support staff member change DNS settings for me. I am really impressed with the support staff.
One thing to think about, I needed support staff to change DNS entries. HostGator don’t allow changing of DNS entries in CPanel. So you’ll have to either chat or call support staff. Anyway, my needed job was done within 5 minutes. So I don’t have any complain with it.
For now that’s it. I will be updating this page, as I go through good/bad experiences with HostGator.
