Register Domain Using Name.com and Host it at HostGator

If you have a HostGator hosting then you most probably know that HostGator charges $15 for domain registration for a year. Also if you want the private whois privacy then you’ll have to pay extra $10 for that. That’s total of $25 for domain registration and private whois privacy.

Name.com offers domain registration at very cheap rate. Name.com charges $9.99 for domain registration for a year and $1.99  for whois privacy. So you get domain registration and whois privacy at just $11.98. That is half price than HostGator’s offer.

Register Domain Using Name.com

To register a domain name, first open an account at Name.com. Login to your account. Search for the domain name, you wish to register. Pay the charges for domain registration. You can pay through credit card or PayPal.

Once domain name is registered, you will need to change the name servers to HostGator’s name servers. So you can host that domain at HostGator.

Change Name Servers at Name.com

Login to your name.com account. Once you are logged in, click on your domain name.  Click on the ‘Edit Name Servers’ option under the Domain Management in the Control Panel.

Name.com NameServers

Now you will see the following name servers.

ns1.name.com
ns2.name.com
ns3.name.com
ns4.name.com

Remove those name servers and add your hostgator name servers. Your hostgator name servers should be like the following.

nsX.hostgator.com
nsX.hostgator.com

where X is number.

Host at HostGator

Once domain name is registered and name servers entries are changed, you just need to add that domain to your HostGator account.

Once you have added the domain to your HostGator account, you are done. Now you have domain registered with Name.com and hosted at HostGator.
